Becoming an Intern

If you are a graduating high school senior or older and would like to explore a possible leading into ministry, then an internship is a great way to get a feel for what ministry is like.  Through the intern program you will have an opportunity to be trained and equipped for ministry before being sent out to minister to others on a short term basis.  This allows you as an intern to gain experience in ministry without a long-term commitment and to further consider God's calling on your life.
A wide variety of opportunities are available to anyone seeking to do an internship.  In the past interns have served in the fields of youth work, children's ministry, pastoral care, Christian education, seniors, music, church planting, and missions.  They have served at various meetings throughout North Carolina, at Quaker Lake, Friends Homes, and as far away as Iowa, Chicago, and Kenya!
The following responsibilities are required of those serving a standard internship:
  • To hands-on serve the meeting or service site for at least an 8 week and 160 hour term (that's an average of 20 hours per week)
  • To attend regular scheduled meetings for worship, Bible Study, and/or the gatherings of specific groups of their work (children, youth, seniors, etc...)
  • To provide the meeting or service site with the proper promotional information and a calendar of events in relation to their internship
  • To offer full dedication to their responsibilities in this ministry experience

If you are interested in serving as an intern, you may receive further information by contacting the North Carolina Yearly Meeting office at (336) 292-6957 or by email at  ncfriends@ncym-fum.org.  You may also go ahead and apply by printing a copy of the Intern Application and reference forms (they're in Microsoft Word) to mail in to the office.
