  • Preparative Meetings - A preparative meeting may be established by a monthly meeting, quarterly meeting, or yearly meeting. It is similar to a monthly meeting in character, organization, and responsibility, though it is generally less extensive in its organization and work. Under guidance of its sponsoring group, the preparative meeting has, to the extent of its resources, the responsibility for its meeting for worship and for its expression of the Christian message.
  • Jamaica - Every summer a team from NCYM goes to Jamaica to lead week-long VBS’s at several different churches.  In 2008, 29 people went and 11 meetings were served, with over 3,300 children attending. A central focus of this effort is on Jamaican leadership development.
  • Mexico - Missions Committee sponsors a pastor, Jorge Reyes, for the village Meeting.  This committee also provides resources for ministry and maintenance to the village church and Jorge's residence. The Young Friends Activities Committee sponsors a summer opportunity for youth and young adults to visit, provide VBS and complete work projects. There is recent interest in providing more than just a VBS once a year.  In partnership with the Missions Committee, real change and improvement has begun to happen, and will continue over the next several years.  The village we visit is in dire need of a drainage system and several houses need concrete floors poured (they have dirt floors now). Construction of a Youth Building at the Church was begun in summer 2008, but, due to weather and ground conditions, was not completed.  Volunteers are planning visits within the next six months with the hope to start phases of addressing community improvements and completing the village church building.
  • Church Extension Work - This committee responds to needs for new meetings which no monthly meeting or quarterly meeting in the yearly meeting is in position to recognize or meet. When the committee is faced with a need for a new meeting, it provides the counsel and other assistance necessary for the nurture and development of a new meeting for worship and fellowship.  The Church Extension Committee has been responsible for helping Meetings, such as Mooresville, Hillel, and New Life get started, some of which are now preparatory meetings. They have also been a crucial resource in getting the new Campus Ministry program started.
  • Quaker Lake Camp - Quaker Lake is a full service camp, offering 12 or more sessions for children and youth in the summer and various camping opportunities throughout the winter months.  Many of our Monthly Meetings visit for a weekend retreat or a “Family Camp.”  There are other meetings and opportunities for fellowship, worship, workshops or retreats. For more informations, check out www.quakerlakecamp.org.
  • MOWA Choctaw Friends Center - The Friends Center is a ministry of North Carolina Yearly Meeting.  The center, which was originally owned and operated by the Associated Committee of Friends on Indian Affairs, is located in McIntosh, Alabama.  The Center serves as the gathering spot for recreation, meals, education, and fellowship in the local community.  Some programs include After School Tutoring for kindergarten  through fifth graders, Kids Club - weekly meetings for children, a youth group for teens, and weekly Rummage Sale.  Two new endeavors include an Internet Cafe and GED prep program.
