Mexico - North Carolina Yearly Meeting has been reaching
out to individuals and entire communities in Mexico for nearly 50
years. The ministry began in 1960 with a single site in Monterrey,
Mexico and expanded in 1970 to include a second site in Matamoros,
Mexico. The current pastor in Matamoros, Jorge Reyes, has served since
1983 and presently leads two worship sites - a church in the village of
Esperanza Reforma and one in his own home, in the city. While
North Carolina Yearly Meeting has already established a church
building, a worship room in Pastor Reye’s house, a playground and
new youth building, there is still much work to be done within this
community.
For many years our Missions Committee has collaborated with Young
Friends Activities Committee in sponsoring a summer team offering
Vacation Bible School for more than 100 children of the village.

Friends United Meeting (FUM) - The Missions committee provides
continued prayer and support for FUM Field Staff, all around the world
from Belize to Kenya and beyond. Whether the outlet is a school or an
entire community, the Gospel is being shared worldwide. Along
with ministering through the actions of groups sent to foreign
countries, funding is provided to various hospitals, missions, churches
and individuals so that they may continue to spread the Word of Christ
as they operate.
Belize Boys School - Friends United Meeting has been involved in Belize since the early 1960s when
Sadie Vernon began a Girls Continuation School and later the Friends
Boys School. The Boys School is a preparatory school for young people
to become better equipped for the high school entrance examination.
Mike and Kay Cain continued the work at the boys’ school from
1996 until their retirement in 2008. As of 2009, Sam and Becky
Barber from Iowa, along with their four children, accepted
God’s call to continue the work.

Mission focuses on four main objectives: evangelism, health services,
education and peace. Today the mission has grown to encompass 5
locations for worship, two medical dispensaries, two nursery schools,
one primary school, and weekly meetings with the three warring tribes
to work toward peace and reconciliation.
